Hosting a Beehive at Home: What It’s Really Like and Why It’s Worth It

Hosting honeybees is one of the most impactful ways to support local ecosystems. Many people assume beekeeping is complicated or time-consuming — but hosting a hive with a professional beekeeper is surprisingly simple. You get the beauty, the fulfillment of knowing you’re supporting your local ecosystem, and the honey. We handle the stings, the inspections, the science, and the sticky stuff.

How to Get Started

  • Step 1: Book a Consultation

We confirm that your home, yard, and sunlight conditions are suitable for bees.

  • Step 2: On-Site Visit & Agreement

We finalize placement and prepare your setup for installation.

  • Step 3: Hive Installation

Your hive is delivered, installed, and positioned for optimal health and safety.

  • Step 4: Bi-Weekly Professional Care

During active seasons, we visit 2–4 times per month; in winter, once monthly.

  • Step 5: Annual Honey Harvest

You’ll receive a portion of your yard’s honey each year — raw, local, and small-batch.

What Happens During a Hive Visit

A typical maintenance visit includes:

  • checking hive health

  • ensuring the queen is laying properly

  • making sure the colony has space

  • adding boxes (“supers”) during growth periods

  • monitoring for pests like mites

  • adjusting the hive for seasonal changes

Visits are usually 30–60 minutes. You can watch — or go about your day.

What Homeowners Love Most

Clients often say their favorite things are:

  • watching bees come and go from the entrance

  • seeing their garden flourish with more pollination

  • sharing honey with friends

  • witnessing the seasons through the bees

  • the sense of pride: “These bees live here. This honey is ours.”

It becomes a quiet rhythm in the home, like feeding the sourdough starter or checking the tomatoes.

Is It Safe?

With proper placement and management, backyard hives coexist beautifully with kids, pets, and neighbors. Bees are naturally docile when cared for gently and given sufficient space.

Honey Harvest Day

This is the magical part.

We:

  • collect honey frames

  • transport them to our processing space

  • extract, filter lightly, and jar your honey

  • return it labeled and ready to gift or enjoy

The flavor changes every year based on what’s blooming — making each harvest uniquely yours.
